Change the Page Order in a PDF

Scans come out back to front, and the page that should be third ends up last. Say where the pages ought to go and this tool writes the document again in that order, on your own device. Anything you do not mention keeps its place behind the pages you did.

How to change the page order in a PDF

  1. Tap Choose a PDF to reorder and pick the document.
  2. Give the new order: typing 3, 1 puts page three first and page one behind it.
  3. Tap Save new order.
  4. Open the result and check the first and last pages before you send it anywhere.

An incomplete order moves pages, it never deletes them

Typing 3, 1 on a five-page document means move page three to the front and page one behind it. The three pages you did not name follow in the order they already had, so a five-page document is still five pages afterwards. A tool that read that instruction as keep only these two would throw three pages away without saying anything, and that is not what anybody means by reorder.

Naming the same page twice is allowed rather than rejected, because putting one sheet in two places is a real thing people need — a signature page that belongs at the front and again at the back, for instance.

Moving a page does not re-scan it

Each page travels as it is. Its content is copied without being decoded and drawn again, so a photographed sheet loses nothing, text stays selectable and searchable, and the page size and any rotation already stored on that page come along with it.

Bookmarks are the exception and they do not survive. The document is written fresh, and an outline whose destinations have all moved would send readers to the wrong pages, so it is dropped and you are told when your file had one. Form answers stay on the page as printed text.

Questions

What happens to the pages I do not list?
They follow, in their original order, behind the ones you named. Reordering here never removes a page — if you want pages gone, that is a different tool.
Can I reverse a whole document?
Yes, by listing the pages from the last to the first. On a long scan that is a tedious thing to type, and feeding the stack the other way round into the scanner is the better fix if that is still an option.
Do the page numbers printed on the pages change?
No. A number printed on a page is part of the picture and moves with it. Only the order of the sheets changes, so a reordered document can quite legitimately read 3, 1, 2 in its own printed numbering.
Are my bookmarks kept when pages move?
No. The file is rewritten, so an existing outline cannot be carried across, and you get a note when the document you brought had one. Everything else on the pages comes through untouched.
